Design and Development of a Cowpea Decorticator

Introduction: Cowpea decorticating is a crucial post-harvest process that involves removing the seed coats from kernels to produce ready-to-use cowpea products such as flour, grits, and protein concentrates food Akara Moinmoin in south western Nigeria.
 Methodology: In this study, locally developed decorticator was tested evaluated using small oloka (a Nigerian local breed) grains. The machine allowed run empty for five minutes before experiment commenced. Three samples of 1kg each were weighed wetted with same quantity water 10, 20, 30 minutes, respectively. then fed into running at speed 420 rpm, operating time taken determined digital tachometer stop watch, Samples decorticated, undecorticated, broken collected evaluate efficiency based on length wetting grains.
 Results: study revealed increased 44.5 178 mm 10 55 92.1%. highest average 92.1% obtained time.
 Conclusion: These findings showed depends machine.
